Charlotte, NC : Pedestrian hit and killed in University area on May 17th 2014

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to an accident in the 10100 block of University City Boulevard near East Mallard Creek Church Road around 11:30 Saturday night. Upon arrival, officers found a man in the median. MEDIC pronounced him deceased.
Police say the driver was traveling inbound on University City Boulevard when the pedestrian was struck by her vehicle as the crossed the road. A witness observed the vehicle swerve to avoid hitting the pedestrian, who did not cross the road at a marked crosswalk. The roadway was not illuminated by streetlights.
Police don't believe the driver was speeding or driving under the influence. The driver has not been charged with a crime.
The crash remains under investigation, and the name of the victim is being withheld until police are able to notify his family.
