GRAND HAVEN TWP, MI : Two hurt in crash on Lincoln near 144th Avenue on Tuesday, August 22, 2017

Two people suffered minor injuries when a van turned in front of a compact car Tuesday morning at a Grand Haven Township intersection.Emergency crews responded to the scene of the crash on Lincoln Street, west of 144th Avenue, shortly before 8:30 a.m.

Police said that a 2009 blue Nissan Versa, driven by 16-year-old Kensley Schenkel of Grand Haven, was westbound on Lincoln at about 8:20 a.m. An eastbound 2003 Pontiac Montana van, driven by 47-year-old Jacinto Rueda-Zamora of Wyoming, made an abrupt turn in front of Schenkel’s car to go into the new Lincoln Pines subdivision.

The vehicles collided and the Versa ended up in the grass on the northwest side of the road.

Both drivers were transported by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital, according to Sgt. Brian Buter of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

A passenger in Schenkel’s car — her mother, Carrie Schenkel, 43 — was not injured.

Rueda-Zamora was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way, Buter said.
