West Yellowstone, Montana
One person was killed and two people were hurt Tuesday in a head-on wreck on the Frontage Road east of Logan, according to the Montana Highway Patrol.
The wreck occurred one mile east of Logan. Trooper Jeff Sargent said a Dodge Durango SUV collided with a Ford four-door sedan. The cause of the collision was not immediately known.
Nicole Anne Pierce, 38, of Manhattan, was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries suffered in the crash.
Patrol Sgt. Patrick McLaughlin later told the Chronicle that “one vehicle may have been passing another” when it collided with a third vehicle. But “we’re not jumping to any conclusions,” the trooper said.
The initial accident report was made by an occupant of the unharmed vehicle that was being passed, said McLaughlin. The call was received by highway patrol dispatch at 11:28 a.m.
The names and ages of the injured were not released.
