Fort Madison, IA : Six out of seven people involved in a two-vehicle accident on Tuesday, May 30, 2017

Six out of seven people involved in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday at the U.S. 61 bypass and Carbide Lane in Keokuk sustained injuries.

Keokuk police officers were dispatched to the intersection at 12:15 p.m. Through the investigation, it was found that a 16-year-old male Hamilton, Ill. was the driver of a 2004 Pontiac 4 door sedan with three passengers traveling south on Carbide Lane.

Police report the driver of this vehicle failed to yield at the intersection of Carbide Lane and Highway 61 bypass striking a westbound 1994 Chevy pickup truck, which was pulling a trailer loaded with a vehicle. The driver of the Chevy truck, Dyas Roberts, 63, of LaGrange Mo., also had two passengers.

The accident remains under investigation. The names of the passengers have yet to be released.

Six of the seven involved reported injuries. One victim was taken by helicopter from the scene to Blessing Hospital Quincy, Ill., and the other five were transported to the Keokuk Area Hospital.

The Keokuk Police Department was assisted by the Keokuk Fire Department, Lee County Sheriff’s Department, Lee County Ambulance Service, Keokuk Volunteer Emergency Corp and Air Evac.
