Charlotte, NC : Monroe school resource officer dies in motorcycle wreck on Saturday, August 19, 2017

A Monroe High School resource officer and eight-year veteran of the Monroe Police Department died Saturday in a motorcycle accident near Cherokee, authorities said.
Officer Paul Perrette, 49, had been a Monroe officer since 2009 and a school resource officer for the past three years. Details of the accident are still being gathered, a spokesman for the city of Monroe said in a statement late Saturday.
“This is a heartbreaking loss for our department, the students at Monroe High School and our residents,” said Police Chief Bryan Gilliard. “Paul was a very well-respected and well-liked member of our department and community and we are all just devastated.”
Monroe High School Principal Mike Harvey will open the school at 8:30 a.m. Sunday “for students and the community to come together and honor Paul,” said the statement from the city.
