Polk County , Fl : 29 - Years old pedestrian struck and killed along Interstate 4 west of State Road 570 in Polk County on early Saturday , January 3rd 2015

A pedestrian was struck and killed on Interstate 4 west of State Road 570 in Polk County early today, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The victim, identified as Daniel J. Vavra, 29, of Lakeland, was standing in the center lane of eastbound I-4 at the time of the incident.

Shortly before 12:30 a.m. Saturday, a 2007 Ford F-150 traveling eastbound in the center lane of the interstate and a 2006 Pontiac Torrent also heading eastbound in the outside lane were unable to stop in time to avoid a pedestrian standing on the interstate, according to a FHP report.

The Ford struck the pedestrian followed by the Pontiac, the report said. Vavra was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Ford F-150 was driven by Maykel Rodriguez Prieto, 35, of Palm Coast. Deborah Kim Butler, 57, of Lithia, was behind the wheel of the Pontiac Torrent. Neither driver nor their passengers were injured.
