A Darlington man died early Monday afternoon after being critically injured in a crash early Sunday morning, the Harford County Sheriff's Office reported.

Ryan Thomas Gentry, 22, lost control of a 1997 Chevrolet 4S while driving south on Granite Road near Maple Drive at 4:37 a.m. Sunday, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release issued Monday morning.

Gentry's vehicle struck a utility pole, according to the Sheriff's Office, and he was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore by a Darlington Volunteer Fire Company ambulance. There was no one else in the vehicle.

Deputies from the Sheriff's Office Northern Precinct responded initially. A Traffic Unit also responded to investigate the cause.

Gentry died early Monday afternoon, according to the Sheriff's Office, which announced his death in a release Monday evening.

Investigators are still looking into possible contributing factors to the crash, Sheriff's Office spokesperson Kyle Andersen said Monday.
