Brightwaters, NY : Driver charged with drunk driving; crashed into tree on Sunrise Highway in Brightwaters on early Friday, Aug 7, 2015

A Long Island man has been charged with drunk driving after losing control of his SUV and crashing into a tree, injuring himself and a passenger.

Police say it happened early Friday morning on Sunrise Highway in Brightwaters.

According to Newsday, the driver, 69-year-old Thomas Power, had to be extricated from the vehicle.

The injured passenger wasn't identified. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Power was charged with driving while intoxicated.
