Castaic, CA : One person dead in a head-on collision on The Old Road in Castaic on Tuesday, March 17, 2015

One person was killed Tuesday in a head-on collision on The Old Road in Castaic.

The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 5:04 p.m. at The Old Road and Villa Canyon Road, according to CHP Officer Patrick Kimball.

The collision involved a pickup truck and a four-door vehicle.

Kimball said the deceased victim was described as a white man, approximately 30 years old.

As of 7 p.m. Tuesday, officials from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Department were still heading to the scene, he added.

A witness on the scene said the man killed was the driver of the pickup.

The driver of the other vehicle was extracted from the wreck shortly before 6 p.m. and taken away by ambulance, the witness said.

An official from the Los Angeles County Fire Department confirmed that one person was transported to the hospital, but could not provide any information on the condition of that person.

The Old Road was shut down for a time in the area of the collision as crews worked to clear the wreckage.
