San Bernardino, California
Two San Bernardino residents were killed in separate crashes in the city on Sunday.
The first crash happened just before 2 a.m. in the area of Waterman and Highland avenues, according to the San Bernardino Police Department.
Police said Banifacio Cortes Bruno, 34, of San Bernardino, crashed near the intersection and was pronounced dead by first responders at 2:05 a.m.
Cortes Bruno’s vehicle hit a light pole on the northeast corner of the intersection after traveling through that intersection, police said.
Authorities said that speed or alcohol appear to be factors in the crash, and the investigation into the crash was continuing.
The second crash happened on Sunday evening, when a woman was hit and killed while walking on 8th Street.
Police said the crash happened just before 7:15 p.m. when a Nissan Pathfinder that was being driven by a 38-year-old woman was heading north on Arrowhead Avenue toward the intersection at 8th Street.
After the driver drove through the intersection, she hit a woman who was walking east on 8th Street not in a marked crosswalk, officials said.
