Pedestrian dead after being hit by car on area highway

A 21-year-old New Jersey man is dead after being hit by a car, just outside the Mart city limits Tuesday night.Troopers report that Shawn Haffey, of Brick, New Jersey, is dead after he was hit by a 2006 Toyota Scion, in the 6800 block of State Highway 164, west of Mart.Trooper DL Wilson says the accident happened about 8 p.m. Tuesday night, as the Toyota was traveling westbound on Highway 164.Haffey was taken to Hillcrest Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m. by Justice of the Peace DeCluitt.No other injuries were reported during the accident and Trooper Wilson says Haffey probably died from blunt force trauma.The accident is still under investigation.
