Athens, OH :One person drowns, another critically injured in Athens on Saturday, July 4th 2015

One man is dead and another critically injured in Athens after a kayaking accident, according to the Athens Police Department.The incident happened at Summit Lake at Lindsay Lane and Summit Lake Drive.Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said a 37-year-old male kayaking and it tipped over three times. The man was able to get back in the kayak twice but could not get back in the third time, Johnson said.A 20-year-old male took another kayak and went out to help but fell into the water, Johnson said.Police officers and firefighters were able pull the men out of the water and perform CPR, according to Johnson.The 37-year-old was pronounced dead at Athens-Limestone Hospital.The 20-year-old was transported to Huntsville Hospital and remains in critical condition.The men's identities are not being released until family is notified, Johnson said.
