Topeka, KS : Teen hospitalized after her car side-swiped by semitrailer on I-470 on Wednesday afternoon, June 8, 2016
A Topeka teenager was hospitalized late Wednesday afternoon following a crash in which her car was side-swiped by a semitrailer on a highway in the southwestern part of the city, authorities said.
The injured youth was identified as Jaycee L. Moran, 18, of Topeka. She was reported as having a possible injury and was taken by American Medical Response ambulance to Stormont Vail Hospital.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 4:05 p.m. Wednesday on westbound Interstate 470, near the S.W. 21st Street exit, when a 2007 Kenworth semitrailer collided with a 2004 Oldsmobile car.
The patrol said the semitrailer, driven by Nathaniel S. Barton III of Wichita, was in the left lane and made an unsafe lane change, side-swiping the Oldsmobile, which was driven by Moran.
Barton, who was wearing his seat belt, was reported uninjured, the patrol said.
Moran also was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.
