Long Beach, CA : 78-year-old man dies when struck by vehicle on Long Beach Boulevard in Long Beach on Monday Morning, April 4, 2016

A man struck by a vehicle in North Long Beach Monday morning has died from his injuries, authorities said Tuesday.

The victim, identified only as a 78-year-old Long Beach resident pending notification of kin, was struck at about 6:00AM Monday by a 2008 Chevy Equinox when he was crossing eastbound on Long Beach Boulevard mid-block, between Market and Plymouth streets, according to a release from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

“The Chevy was traveling northbound on Long Beach Boulevard in the #1 lane from Plymouth Street at the time of the collision, and being driven by a 24-year-old female resident of Hawthorne,” the release stated.

Arriving officers found the pedestrian critically injured and unconscious. Long Beach paramedics transported him to a local hospital.

The driver, who remained at the scene, was questioned and released.

Hospital personnel notified LBPD officials on Tuesday, April 5 that the pedestrian had died from his injuries, officials stated.

The investigation remains ongoing.
