FORKS, CA : Elma man hurt in crash near Ruby Beach on Saturday, 26th September, 2020

A piggybacked trailer bouncing off a rig into oncoming traffic caused a crash that injured an Elma man on U.S. Highway 101 near Ruby Beach, the State Patrol said.

A southbound pickup being driven by Gregory York, 62, of Elma, was near Ruby Beach at about 2:25 p.m. Friday when Colby Gagnon, 28, of Forks was driving a log truck northbound on the highway.

The rig wasn’t carrying logs. An empty trailer was riding piggyback on the tractor.

Gagnon entered a curve to the right and struck bumps in the roadway, causing the piggybacked trailer to bounce off the truck and into the southbound lane, where it was struck by York, the State Patrol said.

York was injured and was taken to Forks Community Hospital. His condition was not available from the hospital Saturday.

Gagnon was not injured.
