Lakeland, FL : Briana Millender, 22, killed in single-vehicle car accident on Socrum Loop in Lakeland on Saturday, November 29, 2014
A 22-year-old Lakeland woman died Saturday from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash on Socrum Loop Rd.
Briana Millender was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center where she later died.
According to a Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to 8335 Socrum Loop Rd. just before 8 am in response to a damaged vehicle in the driveway.
The sole occupant of the blue-colored Honda four-door, Briana Millender, suffered significant injuries. She was extricated by emergency service personnel, treated at the scene and transported for additional medical care.
The report states the car crashed sometime after 2 am but wasn't discovered for several hours. A man walking in the neighborhood around 7 am called 9-1-1.
Investigators believe the vehicle was traveling north on Socrum Loop when it failed to negotiate a 45-degree curve in the road. At the intersection of Buckhorn Rd. the car left the roadway, slid and struck an oak tree head-on.
It then spun approximately 180 degrees before coming to rest in the driveway of the residence at 8335 Socrum Loop Rd.
Millender was not wearing a seatbelt and impairment and excessive speed may have played a factor in the crash. An initial blood screen showed a presence of illegal narcotics – cocaine and marijuana.
The deceased blood-alcohol registered at .143, well over the legal limit of .08.
Marijuana and drug-related paraphernalia were both located in the car.
The investigation continues.
