Authorities are looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck and seriously injured a teenager in a southern New Jersey resort town.

Wildwood police tell The Press of Atlantic City that the accident occurred around 3 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of West Rio Grande Avenue.

Responding officers found the 16-year-old boy, who was unconscious and suffering from a "serious head injury." They determined the teen had been struck by the car's passenger side, side-view mirror, and the force of the impact caused the mirror's casing to break off.

The gray plastic casing was found in the road by police. No other injuries were reported in the accident.
