WOODWARD, OK : Gate man dies in accident near Woodward on Thursday, August 3, 2017

A Gate man died Thursday of injuries suffered in an accident earlier in the day.

Robert Thomas Shahan, 71, was transported by Air Evac to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where he was pronounced dead at 1:51 p.m. of injuries suffered in the accident, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol reprot.

The accident happened at 11 a.m. on Oklahoma 15, about 12 miles west of Woodward.

According to the report, Shahan was driving a 2012 Toyota Echo east on Oklahoma 15 when he came up on a John Deere tractor pulling a brush hog mower, driven by Rocky Ray Weder, 60, of Mooreland. The tractor was making a U-turn back into a ditch and was blocking most of the road. Shahan tried to go around, but hit the tractor, according to the report.

The condition of both men was listed as apparently normal, according to the report, and they both were wearing seat belts.
