Houston, TX : A worker is dead on May, Wednesday, 24th 2017
A worker is dead after he was hit Wednesday by a car while unloading another vehicle at a southwest Houston dealership.
The worker had parked his truck and an attached trailer along the feeder road of the Southwest Freeway, near Bissonnet, said Capt. Megan Howard with the Houston Police Department.
The worker was unloading a Cadillac around 10:15 p.m. for a nearby dealership off of the highway when a driver headed southbound on the feeder road only noticed the truck and trailer moments before an inevitable collision, Howard said.
The driver swerved in an attempt to evade the trailer and truck. The driver's car clipped the side of the trailer and hit and killed the man, who was standing outside of both vehicles, unloading the Cadillac.
The striking car flipped onto its side, hit the curb, righted itself and came to rest in a parking lot just past the dealership, Howard said. It resulted in heavy front-end damage to the car. The driver was not injured.
The driver was at-fault for the collision, Howard said. The driver did not appear to be intoxicated.
It was unclear if the driver had been speeding before the impact. It was also unclear why the worker opted to park his truck and trailer along the side of the highway, instead of inside the dealership parking lot, Howard said.
The case will likely be referred to the Harris County District Attorney's office, Howard said.
