Delaware State Police are reporting a 5-year-old child was killed Wednesday in a multi-vehicle crash north of Milford.
Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said around 8:05 p.m. May 17, the child’s 37-year-old father was driving a Mitsubishi Eclipse south on State Route 1. The man was preparing to turn into an Exxon station at Wayne D Avenue.Meantime, a 56-year-old Hockessin man was driving a Ford Fusion north with a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 44-year-old Hartly man slightly behind.
Fournier said the Eclipse went into the left turn lane but failed to yield to northbound traffic. It hit the truck at the same time the Fusion was trying to pass the pickup and hit the Fusion on the right side.
The impact caused the Eclipse to spin around while continuing to travel east/northeast before coming to a stop. The Fusion slid to a stop in a grassy ditch, sustaining heavy front-end damage. The pickup sustained minor damage and came to a controlled stop on the shoulder.
