Kahului, HI : 56-year-old man dead after collision between moped and pickup truck in Kahului on Friday, March 27, 2015

A man is dead after a traffic accident that happened last week in Kahului.

A black 2013 DAIX moped making a left turn from the exit of 349 Hanakai Street in Kahului failed to yield and collided with a white 2008 Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck traveling south on Hanakai Street on Mar. 27 just after 12:30 p.m.

Richard J. Organiscak, a 56 year old Kahului resident succumbed to his injuries sustained in the collision and died at the Maui Memorial Medical Center’s Intensive care Unit on April 1.

Mr. Organiscak was the operator of the involved moped and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Speed is not suspected as a factor in this collision. The involvement of drugs and alcohol has not been determined as the investigation is still pending.

This is Maui County’s second traffic fatality for the year 2015 as compared to three at this same time last year.
