Plantation, FL : Five people injured after a minivan crashed into a Plantation restaurant on Monday, December 7, 2015

As many as five people have been injured after a minivan crashed into a Plantation restaurant, during the lunch hour.
Plantation police and fire rescue responded to the scene, at 1816 N. University Drive, where a minivan drove as far as to the back of Al Salam Middle Eastern Restaurant, shattering windows and destroying furniture, at around 2:30 p.m., Monday.
According to fire rescuers, a total of five people were hurt. One man was seriously injured and transported to Broward Health Medical Center. Four others, including the driver of the vehicle, suffered minor injuries and have been sent to Westside Regional Medical Center.
The man most seriously injured was a customer seated right by the window, who at one point was pinned underneath the minivan during the incident. The owner of the restaurant, Ehab Albaradi, said, "I tried to rip the car up to pull the customer out of the car."
The man was later taken to the hospital where, as of Monday night, his injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
The car was backed up and an employee helped the man to his feet, but he kept falling down. Minutes later, the man was able to slowly walk out of the restaurant with fire rescue.
It is possible the driver had a medical issue during the time of the crash according to Plantation Fire Chief Joel Gordon. "It looks like it was probably some kind of medical emergency," he said. "The driver is a regular customer to the business. He apparently told the police he was there to pick up some food."
Owners are grateful that the situation was not as bad as it could have been. "Thank God everybody made it out safely," said restaurant co-owner Maher Almasri. "Some injured. Thank God everybody walked out. It was a blessing.
