Authorities say two people have died and a third was critically injured in an early morning crash on Interstate 91 in North Haven

Fire officials say the northbound car veered off the highway around 1:15 a.m. Friday, hit a tree and rolled over into a wooded area.

A man and woman, who both appeared to be in their 20s, were thrown from the vehicle. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The other man on the vehicle was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

No names have been released and state police are investigating the cause. It does not appear as if any other vehicles were involved.
