A 22-year-old motorcyclist witnesses said was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic on East University Avenue Thursday night was killed when police say he collided with a car.
Waldemar Francisco Acevedo Aguilar was speeding through traffic when he struck a car that was turning in front of him in the 2100 block of East University Avenue, according to the Gainesville Police Department.
Officers found debris stretching 200 feet along the road and onto the sidewalk and adjacent yards, the report said.
The largest intact portion of the motorcycle was the motor, frame and rear tire, which was fully engulfed in flames about 150 feet from the initial point of impact, the report noted.
Aguilar’s helmet was found 75 feet from where his body landed.
Witnesses told police the driver was headed east and weaving when he accelerated to an extremely high rate of speed. The bike ran into a car headed west that was making a left turn onto Southeast 21st Street.
A Putnam County EMS crew declared the driver dead. The driver of the car wasn't injured. A traffic homicide investigation is underway, the report said.
