CHATFIELD, MN : Man seriously injured in rural county crash on May, Wednesday, 24th 2017
A one-car crash Wednesday morning left a rural Chatfield man injured after his truck left the road, became airborne, then traveled down a 50-foot embankment, officials said today.
The crash occurred as Edd Chilson, 67, traveled north in the 8000 block of Olmsted County Road 19, said Capt. Scott Behrns of the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office.
His pickup, which was pulling an empty cattle trailer, ran off the east side of the road, launched into the air for 80 feet, then struck some trees and brush, the report says. After that impact, the truck continued down an embankment, where it finally came to a rest.
Chilson had to be extricated from the vehicle by members of the Chatfield Fire and Rescue crew, Behrns said, and was taken by Chatfield Ambulance to Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys Campus with injuries to his head, neck and back.
He was listed in serious condition there this morning, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Chilson was wearing his seat belt, the report says, and the airbag was deployed.
