TROTWOOD, OH : This could have been a terrible crash on Monday, 19th September 2016

Police in Trotwood say a driver lost control of his car and crashed into a retirement home Monday.

The accident happened around 2:00 Monday afternoon in the 2200 block of MacIntosh Circle.

There were reports that the car caught fire but police told 2 NEWS later those reports came from smoke coming from the car and there was no fire.

The Trotwood Chief of Police Eric Wilson told 2 NEWS there were no injuried in the accident and that they were very lucky.

“This could’ve been a terrible crash. (He) went across the sidewalk as well as two lanes of travel of oncoming traffic and he hit a building that is a good occupancy rate but it just so happened that the trwo apartments he hit were empty,” Wilson said.

The driver was out of the car when police arrived but officers had to help him out of the building.

The driver was not injured but emergency medical personnel did check him out at the scene.

The accident is still under investigation while police try to determine what caused the crash. There is no word if drugs or alcohol were involved, but Chief Wilson said it looked like “bad driving habits.”

Wilson said they see a lot of speeders in the area and have focused enforcement efforts in that neighborhood. say they perform traffic enforcement in the area frequently as they have received complaints of speeding on the roads.
