A Millstadt woman was killed and three people were injured in a head-on crash late Sunday night.

The Illinois State Police say two of the injured are children.

The woman who died hasn't been identified by police. She was 68 years old and lived in Millstadt.

She was driving a 2005 Acura south on Highway 158 at about 11:40 p.m. Sunday. A man driving a 2007 Toyota Rav4 was driving north on Highway 158. Near Roachtown Road, the man in the Toyota crossed the center line and hit the woman's car head-on, police say. She died at the scene.

Investigators say they don't know why the man's vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic.

He was seriously hurt, and two children riding with him were also seriously hurt. Illinois State Police said the man, 33, of Belleville, was taken to a hospital in the Belleville area. Police did not give the gender or ages of the children. They were taken to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis.
