Decatur, TN : Four people were killed in a three-vehicle crash at Highway 58 in Meigs County On Friday May 6th, 2016
Authorities searched on Saturday for a man who was involved in a crash that killed four people on Highway 58 in Meigs County.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said it is asking for the public's help in finding 34-year-old John Wesley Bennett, who faces multiple felony warrants after authorities said he caused Friday's three-vehicle crash and then ran away from the scene. In
a news release, the highway patrol called the crash "very horrific."
Authorities say Bennett was driving a dump truck on Highway 58 southbound when a trailer disconnected from the truck about two miles south of Decatur. The out-of-control trailer rolled into the northbound lanes, hitting a Nissan Maxima and a
Nissan Pathfinder, the highway patrol said.
The driver of the Maxima, Andrew T. Blackford, of Murfreesboro, and his passenger, Samantha E. Norris, of Maynardville, were killed in the crash.
Both occupants of the Pathfinder, driver Christopher S. Denton and passenger Paula M. Stevens, both of Dunlap, also were killed. All four victims were wearing their seat belts.
After the crash, Bennett kept driving for about a quarter-mile before stopping and fleeing the scene on foot, according to a preliminary report from the highway patrol.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the highway patrol at 1-800-305-2201 and request to speak with Sgt. Thomas W. Clower.
