DEERFIELD, WI : 3 killed, 1 injured in interstate crash ID'd as Milwaukee accountants on Wednesday, 2nd November 2016
Four people were killed and two more critically injured in a crash the Wisconsin State Patrol says was caused by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 94 near Deerfield.A release from RitzHolman CPAs in Milwaukee said four of their accountants were returning from La Crosse where they presented at a recruiting and networking event for University of Wisconsin-La Crosse accounting students.
"The RitzHolman family is emotionally devastated by the tragic results of a motor vehicle accident," the statement said. "The firm has learned that four of our dynamic young professional accountants were the victims of an allegedly intoxicated driver who struck their vehicle head on while traveling the wrong way on eastbound I-94."
Company officials said Kim Radtke, Clenton Hall and Katey Pasqualini, all senior staff accountants, died in the crash. Brian Falk, a supervisor at RitzHolman, suffered serious injuries.
"Due to their professionalism and outgoing personalities, they served as the leadership team for RitzHolman's outreach to and recruitment of young accounting professionals."
The crash happened after a police chase around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The state patrol reports it was responding to emergency calls about an SUV driving erratically.
The vehicle reportedly turned around on the interstate, going against traffic in the eastbound lanes when it crashed into two sedans, one of which was the vehicle being driven by the RitzHolman employees.
The driver of the other car died at the scene. He was a 23-year-old man from Northbrook, Illinois.
The driver of the SUV was identified as a 32-year-old man from Waunakee. He also suffered life-threatening injuries.
State Patrol said alcohol does appear to be a contributing factor in the crash.
The crash is still under investigation.
"It is going to be very complex just because of the severity of the situation and what all is involved here," State Patrol Sgt. William Miller said. "Obviously we have our field units out there and we have our reconstruction unit working together to put this thing together."
