A single-vehicle crash killed a Lauderdale County man late Monday night, authorities said.
Christopher Neal Garner, 32, 5285 Lauderdale 26, Rogersville, died from injuries sustained in the accident.
Cpl. Jeremy Baker, of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Quad-Cities State Troopers Post, said the crash occurred on Turner Lindsey Road, a mile west of Rogersville at 11:45 p.m.
Baker said Garner was in a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado truck that ran off the road and struck a tree.
Emergency personnel at the scene said the truck hit the tree almost head on.
Lauderdale County Corner Andy High said Deputy Coroner Butch Tucker pronounced Garner dead at the scene.
Officials said a passenger in the truck was not injured.
Garner was traveling east towards Rogersville.
Baker said Garner was not wearing a seat belt.
Lauderdale County Commissioner Roger Garner, no relation to the victim, said he taught Chris Garner at Allen Thornton Career Tech Center.
“I really hate to hear this. I really thought a lot of Chris. He was a good guy,” Roger Garner said.
He said Chris Garner worked as a concrete finisher.
“He was always a hard worker,” Roger Garner said. “I used to see him all the time in Rogersville. In fact, I just saw him a week or so ago, and I talked with him. That’s just shows how precious life is and how we never know what can happened.
“My prayers are with his family.”
Chris Garner is the second fatality this year in the northwest Alabama region and southern Tennessee counties of Wayne and Lawrence.
The fatal accident is the second in the last four days.
