Waterloo, IA : Two people injured in Hwy. 20 motorcycle crash on Thursday, August 4, 2016

A motorcycle was involved in a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 20 on Thursday that closed a portion of the road for a short time.

The crash occurred in the westbound lane five miles east of Dike at mile marker 220. at 3:51 p.m. Thursday.

According to the Grundy County Sheriff's Office, Al Dwayne Covey, 46, and Roxanne Covey, 45, both of Huntington, Ind., were driving a 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on Highway 20 when Al Covey lost control of the bike, left the roadway and flipped over into the north ditch.

Both were ejected from the motorcycle.

Al Covey was airlifted to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo and transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Roxanne Covey was also taken to Covenant.

The crash remains under investigation by the Grundy County Sheriff's Office. The Iowa State Patrol, Dike Fire and Ambulance, Sartori Memorial Hospital paramedics and Air Care assisted.

An off-duty UnityPoint Health respiratory therapist, Heather Harms of Aplington, said she and two other out-of-town nurses passing by in separate vehicles "really pulled together" and provided aid to the Coveys until authorities arrived and other citizens provided traffic control.
