Charlotte, NC : 49-year-old Jonathan Furr killed, woman injured in crash in east Charlotte neighborhood on Tuesday night, June 28, 2016

A man was killed and a woman was injured in a crash in an east Charlotte neighborhood Tuesday night.

It happened around 9:38 p.m. in the 4200 block of Winedale Lane, near Shamrock Drive.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say 49-year-old Jonathan Furr was speeding in a 2002 Ford Focus when he crossed the center line to pass a parked car, and struck a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta head-on.

Furr was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead on scene, police say. The 23-year-old woman driving the Volkswagen suffered minor injuries.

"Excessive speed and alcohol use appear to be the contributing factors in this crash on the part of Jonathan Furr," CMPD said.

The woman was charged with no operators license.

Police say Furr was going 50 miles per hour in a neighborhood with a posted speed limit of 25 miles per hour.
