Rock County, WI : Three children injured, motorist injured in crash involving school bus on U.S. Highway 14 in Center Township on Tuesday, January 5, 2016
A motorist was critically injured Tuesday and three children hurt when a car slammed into the back of a school bus in Rock County, the sheriff's office said.
Three of the 24 school-age children aboard the bus suffered minor injuries in the crash, reported shortly after 3:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 14 west of N. Fox Road in Center Township, according to a news release from the Rock County Sheriff's Office.
A 60-year-year-old Madison man driving the bus was slowing to a stop to release children from the vehicle when an eastbound Ford Escort driven by a 36-year-old Janesville man crashed into it from behind, the release said.
The car was pinned beneath the rear of the bus, owned by Ringhand Brothers of Evansville, Wis., and its driver was extricated and taken to a hospital.
The three injured children were taken to a hospital, where they were expected to be treated and released, and the other children were released to their parents at the scene of the crash, according to the sheriff's office.
The crash remained under investigation, according to the release.
