Baton Rouge, LA : A 7-year-old girl was killed in an alleged impaired-driving crash on Sunday, September 24th 2017
A 7-year-old girl was killed in an alleged impaired-driving crash on Sunday in Hahnville, according to Louisiana State Police.
Troopers responded to the single-vehicle crash shortly after 5 p.m. on La. 18 (River Road) eastbound at Avalon Place. Alina Ezzo, of Luling, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected in the crash, State Police said in a news release. She was transported to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
An initial investigation showed that Islam Ezzo, 32, of Hahnville, was driving a 2013 GMC Terrain eastbound on La. 18 “at a high rate of speed,” lost control of the vehicle and ran off the roadway, State Police said. The vehicle struck several trees and overturned.
Islam Ezzo was transported to University Medical Center with "serious injuries," State Police said.
Impairment is suspected in the crash, State Police said. A toxicology analysis will be completed for Islam Ezzo, who was arrested on counts of vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injuring and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
Additional counts may be forthcoming, State Police said. The crash remains under investigation.
