Nashville, TN : 3-year-old killed, mom seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash Monday afternoon near the Cheatham County on August 18, 2014
A three-year-old girl was killed in a single-vehicle crash Monday afternoon near the Cheatham County line in western Davidson County.
Vanessa Leon died in the crash around 3 p.m. on Bull Run Road as her mother, 39-year-old Dolores Garcia, was driving around a curve.
Police reported the vehicle somehow left the roadway and struck a utility pole.
Vanessa was in a child safety seat in the back. It became dislodged in the crash, striking the back of the driver's seat.
She was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died.
Garcia, who lives on Bull Run Road, was also transported to a nearby hospital after suffering serious injuries. Her condition was not immediately known.
Authorities stated Garcia was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and there was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement.
They did say, however, that excessive speed may have played a role in the crash.
Further details have yet to be released.
