CHEYENNE, WY : I-80 reopened after early morning semi-truck crash on Tuesday, June 27, 2017
The westbound lanes of Interstate 80 reopened around 10:30 a.m. today after a crash involving two semi trucks blocked the road for nearly five hours.
Wyoming Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Kyle McKay said a KLLM Transport Services truck was pulled over in the emergency lane near mile marker 361 on westbound I-80 when the driver of a Swift Transportation truck drifted into the emergency lane and rear-ended it around 5:48 a.m., causing complete road blockage.
McKay said no one was killed in the incident, but all involved were transported to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center to be evaluated. He said he was unsure of how many people were possibly injured, but that it didn’t sound like any of the potential injuries were extensive.
Driver fatigue is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash, McKay said.
Investigators are looking into why the KLLM Transport Services truck was pulled over in the emergency lane.
McKay said the KLLM Transport Services truck was carrying general freight that spilled out on the highway and needed to be cleaned up, but the material was not hazardous.
Whether the Swift Transportation truck driver receives any citations is still under investigation.
