A 28-year-old man was arrested Wednesday afternoon, accused of fleeing the scene of an accident that seriously injured a 74-year-old woman earlier in the day, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

Francisco Gonzales Jr. was arrested after police say he crossed the center line into a southbound lane on 19th Street as he drove north in a pickup. Gonzales collided with the woman driving south at about 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of 19th Street and Marshall Avenue, then fled from the crash, Swanton said.

Emergency responders extricated the woman from her vehicle then took her to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, Swanton said.
