Pittsburgh, PA : A bicyclist from North Carolina was struck and killed in a collision on Friday, August 4, 2017
A bicyclist from North Carolina was struck and killed in a collision with a car early Friday in Dunbar Township, Fayette County, authorities said.
The incident occurred at 3:37 a.m. along the northbound lanes of Route 119 near the Wal-Mart, state police in Uniontown said.
The bicyclist was identified as Brett Warner, 27, of Burlington.
Northbound 119 was closed from Bell Drive to the Connellsville city line for a few hours after the crash.
Trooper Michael Quinn said Warner was riding in the center of the roadway, northbound on the 1700 block, when the accident occurred.
Quinn said a 25-year-old man from McClellandtown, who was not identified, was driving in the passing lane where the bicyclist was struck.
"Due to the fact that (the bicyclist) was riding a bicycle without lighting or bright reflective clothing, (the motorist) did not see him," Quinn reported.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
Warner was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner's office.
A week ago, state police sought the public's help in locating a driver who struck and seriously injured a pedestrian just after midnight July 28 near the Speedy Meedy's station, also along Route 119 South in Dunbar Township. The two accidents were about 4 miles apart.
Police said the sport utility vehicle continued driving south after striking Devin Derkach, 21, of Belle Vernon. Derkach was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., for treatment of multiple injuries, according to police.
Police said the black Lincoln MKC had a missing side-view mirror on the passenger side. The driver was an older white man with a scruffy beard, troopers said.
That driver still not been identified, authorities said. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call police at 724-439-7111.
