A fiery motorcycle crash in Waldorf, Maryland has left the driver and his passenger dead.
Maryland State Police say 47-year-old Derek Anthony Colquitt of the District and 34-year-old Jeri Lenelle Whorton of White Plains were on the motorcycle.
Around 4 p.m. Sunday. Colquitt was driving a 2013 Harley southbound on U.S. Route 301 near Mattawoman-Beantown Road when he crashed into the back of a Dodge Ram. The motorcycle then caught fire.
Colquitt died at the scene. Whorton was airlifted to Prince George’s hospital where she died. Police say speed was a factor in this crash and that Whorton wasn’t wearing a DOT-approved helmet.
Colquitt was a bassist and manager for the prominent go-go group The Junkyard Band.
