One man was taken to Paoli Trauma Center in critical condition following a rush-hour collision on Lancaster Avenue at the Route 202 on and off-ramps Wednesday evening. The accident happened just after 5 p.m. East Whiteland police Sgt. Stephen Stefanski said a Chevrolet sedan was traveling eastbound on Lancaster Avenue when it collided with a Ford Focus sedan at the Route 30 on- and off-ramps.

The Chevrolet was thrown off the road, coming to rest facing north in the bushes alongside the road.

East Whiteland Fire Chief John DeMarco said firefighters extricated the victim with hydraulic rescue tools. The roof and door were removed to access the patient. Nobody else was injured.

Radio reports indicated the victim was a male in his 20s.

East Whiteland was assisted by Malvern paramedics and West Whiteland fire police.

The road was closed into the evening as accident reconstruction teams investigated.
