Nassau County, FL : 12-year-old girl killed, 6 others injured in a two-car crash on Interstate 95 near Florida-Georgia state line on Saturday, May 21, 2016

A 12-year-old girl died and six family members were injured Saturday night in a two-car crash on Interstate 95 in Nassau County near the Florida-Georgia state line.
Killed was Grace Force of Fort McCoy, Fl., who was among seven passengers in a Chevrolet Suburban driven by Raymond Force, 43, also of Fort McCoy, that overturned and hit a guardrail following a collision with a Toyota Corolla driven by Ruth Brinkley, 19, of St. Augustine, about 5:45 p.m. on the interstate near Mile Marker 381. Grace Force, who wasn’t wearing a safety belt, was ejected from the sport utility vehicle when it overturned, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Neither Brinkley nor her passenger, Mitchell Redford, 20, of Chatham, Va., were injured. Both had been wearing their safety belts, the Highway Patrol said.

Taken to UF Health Jacksonville with minor injuries were Raymond Force, Melody Force, 42, Lyda Force, 15, Annaliese Conant, 16, Caleb Force, 3, and Mary Force, 15, all of Fort McCoy. Joshua Force, 1, wasn’t injured. All of them had been using safety belts or child restraint, according to the Highway Patrol.

Both vehicles were southbound on I-95. For an unknown reason, the Corolla veered to the inside emergency shoulder, Brinkley over-steered and lost control of the car. The Corolla struck the rear of the Suburban causing it to veer left as the car began spinning clockwise. The Suburban overturned on its right side and hit the median guardrail. It went over the top of the guardrail and continued overturning until finally coming to rest spanning the inside emergency shoulder and inside travel lane of northbound I-95, the Highway Patrol said.
