custody after one of the men crashed a stolen vehicle near Victorian Avenue and 22nd Street in Sparks on Monday afternoon.
At 12:32 p.m., a Sparks officer started to initiate a traffic stop on a gray 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe for no license plates, a report from the Sparks Police Department said.
According to police the driver of the vehicle, later identified as 26-year-old Benjamin Hinote, didn't stop and instead turned northbound on El Rancho Drive at a high rate of speed. Police also said Hinote was driving recklessly.
Hinote turned into the trailer park on the 500 block of El Rancho Dr. and crashed through a fence at the end of the park and into two residential homes that were off of Maxine Circle. Officers said no injuries were reported and the homes didn't have serious structural damage.
Hinote fled on foot. According to the report, while they were setting up a perimeter, an officer noticed a 2007 Toyota Camry that appeared to be connected to Hinote. Officers stopped the vehicle, which was driven by 29-year-old Boris Sharoyan. Hinote was a passenger in the car and fled across Oddie Boulevard.
When police chased after Hinote, Sharoyan tried to drive away. According to police, Sharoyan was pulled over near El Rancho Dr. and Greenbrae Drive.
According to police, officers determined the car Hinote was driving was stolen out of Reno. Hinote also had three extraditable felony warrants that were related to a robbery and two burglaries, police said. Hinote was charged with felony eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, felony property damages and for his three previous warrants. His bail is set at $45,000.
Sharoyan was allegedly assisting Hinote in trying to escape, police said. Sharoyan is being held on a probation and parole hold and charged with obstructing.
