Melrose, MA : Students taken to hospital after Malden bus crashes in Charlestown on Tuesday, January 31, 2017
Multiple children were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries Tuesday after a school bus from Malden crashed in Charlestown around 7:20 a.m., Boston Police said.
The bus was operated by Malden Transportation, Inc., and was carrying special needs students going to various schools in Boston, according to company manager Ed Barry.
Barry said the bus was rear-ended by a private vehicle. He believed all but two children were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital.
Police spokesperson Officer Rachel Maguire said the bus was carrying nine children. The crash occurred at 1 Rutherford Ave.
The bus had left from the Malden Transportation headquarters on Eastern Ave. in Malden, but Barry did not believe any of the passengers were Malden residents.
