Freedom, NH : Man was killed and his passenger was injured in a weekend crash at Nnear the area of Ossipee Lake Road On Sunday May 8th, 2016

Police say a 23-year-old Massachusetts man was killed and his passenger was injured in a weekend crash in eastern New Hampshire that left nearly 1,500 residents without power.

Edward Conway was pronounced dead at the scene Sunday after he struck an electrical pole near the area of Ossipee Lake Road in Freedom around 7:30 a.m. The Carrol County Sheriff's Office responded.

The Billerica, Massachusetts man's girlfriend was in the car at the time of the crash. She was hospitalized with minor cuts and bruises.

Eversource officials said Sunday morning that power should be restored to affected homes by 1 p.m.

Police say speed was a major factor in the accident.
