KINCAID, IL : Kincaid man killed in single-vehicle crash on Monday, January 9th 2017

A 38-year-old Kincaid man was pronounced dead Sunday morning after the vehicle he was driving left the roadway and overturned in a field.

An individual passing near the scene reported to police at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday there was a man lying near a truck, in the vicinity of 1400 North Road, about two miles south of Kincaid.

When emergency medical personnel responded, they found Derrick M. Kounse unresponsive and called for the coroner, said a press release from Amy Calvert Winans, Christian County coroner.

A preliminary investigation indicated that Kounse was traveling east when he lost control of his vehicle, went into the north ditch, then overturned in the field. He was ejected from the vehicle and died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head and body due to a vehicle crash, the preliminary investigation showed. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The Christian County Sheriff's Office and Coroner's Office are investigating the case. A toxicology report is pending.
