Saltlake City ,UT : Deadly collision between truck hauling horse trailer and car on saturday ,August 15th 2015

A deadly collision between a Dodge 3500 pickup truck hauling a large horse trailer and a passenger car has been in the news since Aug. 15. Two people lost their lives and three others sustained serious injuries in the horrific crash that occurred on U.S. Highway 89 at the intersection of Thistle Junction and U.S. Highway 6 in Utah. The accident provides a glimpse into just how suddenly and unexpectedly lives can be lost without warning.

Apparently a passenger vehicle, heading north in Spanish Fork Canyon, halted at a stop sign at the intersection and began to turn left just as an eastbound pickup truck pulling a horse trailer came onto the scene. The pickup attempted to avoid the car, but could not evade it in time and struck its side. The momentum of the collision combined with the weight of the trailer and horses forced the pickup to roll down an embankment before it came to a complete stop.

The Utah Highway Patrol reports in a new release, “It is unknown why the driver of the car [Intrepid] pulled out into the path of the pickup.”

At this time, the Highway Patrol has not found any evidence that alcohol or other controlled substances were involved in the deadly crash. It seems that “Failure to Yield appears to be the cause of the crash.” The Highway Patrol noted that everyone in the vehicles were wearing seat belts.

A total of five people were involved in the crash. Four family members were riding in the pickup truck and two of them were killed. Heather Jacobson, 38, and 7-year-old Broc Jacobson were killed. Landon Jacobson, 38, was driving the truck and received critical injuries, and 16-year-old Bowdie Jacobson suffered serious injuries. Amelia Allan, 25, the driver of the Intrepid car, was also gravely hurt.

Reportedly, there were three horses in the trailer (but that number has not been confirmed by authorities) that also were wounded during the collision. Despite their injuries, they managed to walk out of the trailer and are presently under the care of a veterinarian.

Traffic slowed to a crawl for several hours after the accident on reduced travel lanes.
