Crestmead mum Kerryn Blucher killed in car park accident

CRESTMEAD mum Kerryn Blucher, who was killed in an accident in the car park of the busy Redland Spring Festival celebration on Saturday, was 35 weeks pregnant at the time.

Mrs Blucher's unborn child was also killed.

An out-of-control car struck the Crestmead woman, 33, and another person after it smashed through a barrier in the car park of the Cleveland Showgrounds off Long St at Cleveland yesterday.

The incident took place at 4.45pm.

Bystanders and emergency services workers worked feverishly to save Mrs Blucher's life at the scene.

They were ultimately unsuccessful and she passed away.

The car that struck the mum-to-be was being driven by a 76-year-old woman.

She was unhurt in the incident.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Festival director Patrick Burke said the organiser’s extended their sympathy and their condolences to Mrs Blucher’s family.

"We want to send our condolences to anyone who was involved in the incident,’’ he said.

"The festival would also like to offer support to anyone who was affected by the incident on Saturday.
