West Valley City, UT : Elderly man is dead after a teenage driver ran a red light, triggering a multi-vehicle crash on Wednesday night September 3rd 2014
West Valley City police say it appears a teenage driver ran a red light, triggering a multi-vehicle crash that killed an elderly man.
Police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku said investigators found that the 18-year-old female behind the wheel of a Geo Prism failed to stop for the signal at 4100 S. 2200 West when it turned red about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday.
The southbound Prism then collided with a northbound car on 2200 West, and both vehicles then careened into the rear of a Utah Transit Authority bus, which was southbound on 2200 West.
An 84-year-old passenger in the second, northbound car, Davey Lee Burton of Taylorsville, died shortly after being rushed to the hospital.
The 18-year-old Prism’s driver and four passengers suffered minor injuries. No one on the bus was hurt.
Vainuku said Thursday that charges against the Prism’s driver were being screened.
