Everett,WA : Marysville driver arrested after car crashes on March, Thursday 29th 2018
A Marysville man was arrested for investigation of vehicular assault Thursday after the car he was driving plowed into a mailbox, clipped a bicyclist and smashed head-on into another vehicle.
The suspect, 22, nodded off while Marysville police were investigating. He’d reportedly been using heroin, court papers said.
The crash happened about 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of 80th Street NE and 47th Avenue NE. Police were told the driver of a black Chevy Equinox had been heading east on 80th Street, when he swerved into the westbound lane, took out a mailbox and struck the bicyclist. The car then hit an oncoming vehicle head-on before crashing into a fence, documents say.
The bicyclist was taken to an area hospital for treatment of bumps and cuts after being dragged several feet. The driver of the car that was hit reported knee pain.
The suspect was still in the driver’s seat with the motor running when approached by police.
He was described in court papers as “barely coherent, sweating profusely, and his pupils were pinpoint.”
A spoon was spotted on the center console. There also was a roll of aluminum foil on the floor and a bag of syringes.
A woman who was in the car said she and the driver had used heroin about 15 minutes earlier. The man was nodding off, and an officer rubbed hard on his chest to keep him awake. When paramedics arrived they gave the man a dose of naloxone, “and he immediately became more lucid,” court papers say.
The man was taken to an area hospital for an evaluation before being booked into jail. Officers also obtained a search warrant to secure a blood sample for testing.
The arrest came a few hours after north Snohomish County leaders gathered to announce stepped-up efforts to deploy social workers and sheriff’s deputies around Marysville and Arlington to help homeless people get sober and start rebuilding their lives.
