A 34-year-old man is dead after being struck by a car in Poinciana Friday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Alexis Perez, of Kissimmee, was crossing Marigold Avenue near San Remo Road from the east to the left when he walked into the direct path of a 2004 Volvo, FHP spokeswoman Kim Montes said.

The car, who troopers say was driven by 31-year-old Jeannie Marie Petrie of Kissimmee, then struck the man and ran him over. Petrie then left the scene, Montes said.

Troopers later found Petrie at her home, where she was arrested. She was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $15,000 bond.

Petrie faces charges of failure to stop at the scene of a crash involving death and driving with a suspended license while causing death, according to jail records.

The crash remains under investigation, Montes said.
